A private practice marketing plan for therapists: twelve months, one page

A one-page marketing plan for a therapy private practice: the ideal client, the website fix, therapist SEO, the consult button, follow-up, referrals, reviews, and a month-by-month calendar with what to measure. Built for one clinician or a small group.

You don't need a marketing department. You need one page that says who you help, what you'll do each month, and how you'll know it's working. Here's that page, filled in for a typical private practice, to adapt to yours.

The ideal client, in one sentence

Write it down: "Anxious professionals in their thirties in Irvine who want to stop lying awake." Every decision below is checked against that sentence. If you help several groups, pick the one you want more of this year.

Month 1: the website

Rewrite the homepage so the first line says who you help. Build one page for that specialty. State your fee and insurance plainly. Add the fifteen-minute consult button, online, confirmed in a minute. If you're comfortable, record sixty seconds on camera.

Month 2: the listing and the directory

Fix Google Business Profile: category, hours, video visits, description. Point the Psychology Today profile at your site. Ask three long-standing clients, if appropriate, whether they'd leave a review about the experience of the practice.

Month 3: answer pages

Write four short pages answering what your ideal client searches before booking: what a first session is like, what it costs, how long it takes, whether video works. Each ends with the consult button.

Month 4: follow-up

Set up the two gentle emails after a consult request and the reminders before the consult, on a HIPAA-friendly tool. Set up the waitlist that notifies when a slot opens.

Months 5 and 6: referrals

A short, warm note to six people who could refer: two physicians, a pediatrician, a school counselor, a divorce attorney, a fellow therapist with a different specialty. What you help with, how to refer, how quickly you respond. Repeat every quarter, automatically.

Months 7 to 12: ads, if there's room

If the caseload has openings and the pages are right, a small Google Ads campaign on your specialty plus city. Thirty to sixty dollars a day. Measure cost per booked consult.

Every month, thirty minutes

Check five numbers: consult requests, consults booked, consults that became clients, where they came from, openings next month. Adjust the one thing that's furthest off.

What to expect

Month one changes what the site says. Months two to four change who finds it. By month six, most new clients should come from your own site and referrals, and the directory bill becomes optional.
