Marketing to physicians: how medtech and biotech companies earn a clinician's attention

What actually reaches doctors in 2026: peer-led explainers, evidence in plain English, LinkedIn and search, case walkthroughs, and a demo path that respects their time. What to stop doing, and what to measure.

Physicians are the most marketed-to profession on earth and the hardest to reach. They skip ads, ignore cold email, and trust exactly two sources: the evidence and their peers. Marketing that works with clinicians doesn't fight that. It becomes those two things.

Peer-led, not brand-led

The most effective asset a device or drug company can make is a clinician who uses the product walking through a real case in three minutes. Not a testimonial, a walkthrough: the patient, the decision, the workflow, the outcome, the caveat. Physicians will watch a peer they've never met explain a case. They will not watch a brand video.

Evidence in plain English

The study exists. Nobody reads it. A one-page summary in the language a clinician uses at the end of a long day, with the numbers that matter, the population, and the honest limitations, gets read and forwarded. Put it behind a simple form and it becomes your best lead source.

Where they are

LinkedIn, for specialists, is now the conference hallway. Founders and clinical leads who post short, specific, useful things twice a week build an audience of the exact people the reps want to reach. Search, for the questions clinicians ask before adopting anything. Specialty communities and society meetings, for the room. Email, only after they've asked for something.

Respect the time

The path from interest to demo should take a clinician three minutes of their own time, total. A page, a one-click request, an instant reply with the evidence summary and a booking link, and a rep who shows up prepared. Every extra step loses half of them.

Stop doing

Generic display ads. Cold email sequences from a sales tool. Gated whitepapers written for no one. Booths without a reason to visit. All of it spends money to be ignored.

Measure

Evidence downloads, demo requests, demo-to-trial, and the share of target clinicians reached. Weekly, by message and by channel. Feed what worked back into the next case walkthrough.
